The Woman at the Well Print E-mail

6/20/11 The woman at the well, Lord. You met her two thousand years ago. I met her here, at River City Ministry. She came some time back looking for food, a hot meal, or maybe a shower. She eventually found You. Leona.

The woman at the well came last Thursday. Again. Tired. Weak. Hurting. Thirsty for water that could sustain the soul.

Leona cried, "I'm so tired, I want off these streets." I told her, "You can. God will help you." She hung her head, "I need rehab and to get rid of the drugs." I smiled, "Rehab is only as good as your decision to stay." I had taken to rehab once myself, and once to England, AR to live with her mother who had a job lined up for her.

"So what happened after I took you home to your mother?" I asked. She blurted out, "I know I should have stayed, but I had to go back to the streets. The Devil is strong."

"I'm tired of the running around, tired of all the drugs, no money, tired of all the men."

"How tired, Leona?" I asked.

She shared her story a bit more. I asked, "How many children do you have, Leona?" Seven children by seven men. And the man she has, is not her husband. I offered, "Would you like to have one main man in your life, one who will stay with you, care for you, and never treat you badly?" She knew it was You I was talking about, Lord.

Leona cried. And, so we prayed. Leona was restored. She was so happy. Holding on to the little cross I gave her, she grinned, "I feel as good as the day when you baptized me, bro. Anthony!" I want to tell my boyfriend about all of this.

She took a shower, put on a dress. I could see the glow. Holy Spirit glow. Then, at our lunch worship, Leona sang for the very first time a beautiful old spiritual. Knowing who it was singing, and how far she'd come in her life, it brought tears to a few eyes.

Leona seemed settled, ready to make the change, happy, in You. That was Thursday.

Saturday night, Leona went to see her boyfriend to tell him about her change, found him with another woman, lost herself in anger, stabbed him to death, and now is charged with 2nd degree murder. Her picture was on the morning news.

The turn was so quick, the pressure too much, the pain too deep. And, so Lord, I guess Leona will be off the streets for a while. State rehab. Lord, rehab Leona in ways only You can while she is away.

The woman at the well, Lord. Two thousand years later. The outcome of my woman at the well turned out a bit different, Lord, than Yours. But, I know, Lord, You're not done with my woman at the well, Leona. Not yet.

Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life. John 4:13-14, NIV
