Discipleship. It's a Trip! Print E-mail

2/9/12 Becoming a Christian is a trip, Lord. There are some things You don't really tell us about when we start off, but I get it, You want us to experience things, hoping we will come to You for answers. That's discipleship. Ok Lord, here You go.

Sabrina once prostituted to live--the life of a survivor who wasn't surviving very well. She came to You wanting a change, a new life, and by Your grace mercy and peace, she has it. She's now got a great new church family, clean and sober four months, and no more street walking. She sings a praise almost every day at RCM Lunch Lesson, in fact, "Thank You Lord" floated from her lips towards heaven just yesterday. I know You heard it, Lord.

BUT. Yep, there's always that big ole but that brings things back to reality. The reality being, that helping make disciples takes many forms and involves every aspect of a person's life. After over 25 years of You having me work with the poor, homeless, and incarcerated, this is sort of a new one...

The Hungry Shall Be Filled Print E-mail

2/2/12 He hadn't eaten for two days, Lord. So, on the third day, we gave him a snack bag. He couldn't open the can of beanie weenies and crackers fast enough to get them into his mouth. He was hungry. Very hungry.

Andrew, living the streets, drinking to staying warm knowing it only makes you colder. It's just a false feeling, sort of like the deception that life without God is better. It's not. Andrew said that today. He had a different hunger today.

Andrew got more than beans and crackers to fill himself today. On the third day of his hunger, Andrew was filled. Filled with You, Lord, filled with Your blessed Holy Spirit.

He's got a new start, an appointment to get into rehab this afternoon, and a new view of his life. His life is Yours now. Andrew gave it to You, to do as You will Lord.

On the third day. The day of Jesus' resurrection. The day of Andrew's resurrection. New birth. New man. Full, and so full of You, Lord, that Andrew, though tired, battered, hungry, dirty, broke into a big smile in praise to You.

On the third day. Wow. Filled to brim. With You.

For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins ...that he was buried ... that he was raised on the third day ... 1Corinthians 15:1-11, NIV

A New Year Print E-mail

1/6/12 It's a New Year, Lord! Last Friday, I wasn't even supposed to be at RCM. Just filling in for our Operations Manager, Paul, who needed to be out. But, You wanted me here that day. For something new, or rather someone who wanted to become new.

Jeffrey, Lord. I've known him for quite some time, talked to him several times about You, but not much movement towards You. Not until Friday.

Jeffrey came in, saw our Social Services Director, Marci, who helped him get into detox. But not before she called me in to speak with him about You. He was ready, Lord. Ready to give his life to You, for the new Jeffrey. And soon to be improved!

Jeffrey gave his life to You, exchanged the old man for the new man! It's a good trade.

Old Jeffrey went down into the water heart, mind, soul ... body.

By the way, Lord, Jeffrey has only one leg and walks on crutches. You made Jeffrey new and whole in his surrender to You. Redeemed, bought back, brand new! Lord, he looks forward to getting that new body. The one that doesn't require crutches.

Happy New Year, Lord ... it's going to be a good year!

... if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old is gone, the new has come! 2Corinthinians 5:17, NIV
